Telegraph Sporting Heroes

Liontrust has teamed up with The Telegraph to recognise the skills, achievements and excellence of international sports stars. Each month, The Telegraph's journalists nominate sportsmen and women who they believe have produced the best sporting performance. Readers vote for their favourite from among the three sportsmen and women on the shortlist. An overall sporting hero is crowned every December.

Sporting Hero of the Year 2016

The British tennis superstar and gutsy Davis Cup champion Andy Murray was voted Sporting Hero of the Year for the second year running in December 2016.

Murray’s magical season included a second Wimbledon triumph, after which he won the July award for Liontrust Sporting Hero of the Month, and the Olympic gold medal in Rio de Janeiro.

From a 12 strong shortlist, he gained 37% of the vote, ahead of Alistair Brownlee in second and Muhammad Ali in third position.
